DEC Transfer could happen by Fall 2002 With the legislation now passed, transfer of Driver Examination Centres (DECs) out of the OPS is slated for Fall 2002, according to a Dec. 19, 2001 memo from the Ministry. MTO also gave us an update on the Confidential
Information Memorandum (CIM) to qualified bidders dated Dec. 18.
The bidders will have about 12 weeks to respond and then MTO will make a recommendation to the government as early as Mar. 2002.
Government provides more details: 94 per cent opt out
The great majority of DEC staff will be opting out if services are transferred to another employer.
The employer has provided some more details on how the proposed transfer will affect employees of the DECs who have opted to take the package or to remain in their position with the new employer.
In the information package sent to employees Dec. 19, the employer admitted that roughly 94 per cent of OPSEU employees elected to take the surplus package and leave the OPS if DEC services are transferred to another provider.
