This is the sixth edition of OPSEU's special TCHC newsletter, Home Pages. We welcome CUPE 79 members to this publication, meant to inform you of activities at OPSEU and in your workplace. Please see our housing site at http://www.opseu.org/campaign/tchc.htm  for previous issues.

Thanks for your response

Thank you for your thoughtful responses to our June 5 issue. We appreciate your comments and will answer your questions in this and future issues. We will provide individual responses as well.

Why is Security voting?

We’re surprised at this too, since CUPE 79 does not currently represent any security personnel at TCHC.

With OPSEU, security staff will keep their own bargaining unit and their own collective agreement. But with CUPE they would be lumped into a huge Local representing City workers, and the City contract.

We say let’s keep the Security Unit intact!

OPSEU or CUPE?

The strongest reason to vote OPSEU is our 30 years of experience in representing housing staff. Your collective agreement is tailored to the TCHC workplace.

What does CUPE 79’s executive know about TCHC? Who would bargain on your behalf? TCHC staff will be a 500-member unit in a local of 20,000 city workers. TCHC staff concerns and priorities could have to compete with those of the 20,000 city workers. We don't believe this is in your interest.

With OPSEU you get the combined expertise of housing personnel in your Local and our professional union staff to fight for the best deal on your behalf.

Your election team is in place

There’s a team of OPSEU 592 members from your workplace working hard to inform you about the vote and answer your questions on the issues that matter. They want to keep the two bargaining units -- Professional, Office and Clerical and Security and keep the two contracts tailored to their specific workplaces.

They are busy scheduling information meetings and are happy to come to your workplace and talk to you and your colleagues about specific concerns. Watch this space for more details.
