This is the fifth edition of OPSEU's special TCHC newsletter, Home Pages. We welcome CUPE 79 members to this publication, meant to inform you of activities at OPSEU and in your workplace. Please see our housing site at http://www.opseu.org/campaign/tchc.htm  for previous issues.

You vote June 13

The Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB) has ordered a run-off vote for TCHC inside workers June 13.

You have the opportunity to decide:

Do you want to remain a member of a Local (OPSEU 592) that deals exclusively with housing staff and has 30 years experience in doing so?

Do you want to maintain a collective agreement that is tailored to your own workplace? An executive that you know and work with on a daily basis? A Local that has represented Housing staff for 30 years?

Or do you want to join a Local (CUPE 79), a huge 20,000 member Local that bargains with the City of Toronto for a diverse group such as librarians and public health nurses?

It is your choice.

CUPE says Security should not have a separate bargaining unit or collective agreement. They believe Security should be combined with the Office, Clerical and Professional group. That’s why Security is voting.

Decentralized chaos at TCHC

With the transition, many of our staff are trying to make sense of what is going on, and where we fit in the new structure. Who do they report to?

Many questions surround the purchase of the new TCHC building in Rosedale. Where will everyone go? The chaos in the workplace makes it hard to do our jobs.

The OPSEU 592 executive will continue to work hard to answer your questions about workplace health and safety, classification grievances, contracting out, and other problems with the transition.

We’re ready to bargain

Your teams in the Office, Clerical and Professional Unit and the Security Unit are prepared to bargain new collective

agreements, just as soon as the representation issues are resolved. Meantime, your existing collective agreements remain in effect.
