Four of the
largest organizations representing students, staff, and faculty at Ontario
colleges and universities will hold a press conference on Wednesday to jointly
release their responses to the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities'
discussion paper, Strengthening Ontario's Centres of Creativity,
Innovation and Knowledge.
Over the summer, a series of roundtables were held in response to the paper and
stakeholders were invited to provide input on possible changes to the college
and university system by September 30. Students, staff, and faculty are
concerned that the proposals in the paper represent an unprecedented government
intrusion into Ontario's universities and colleges that could undermine the
quality of higher education in Ontario.
Collectively, OPSEU, CUPE and OCUFA represent more than more than 65,000
academic and support staff at colleges and universities, and CFS-Ontario
represents over 300,000 college, undergraduate and graduate students across
Ontario.
