Summer Job Opportunities
We are looking for
mobilizers for our “I Believe in Fairness” community college
part-timers campaign
OPSEU is looking for 13
campaign mobilizers for the period from July 3 to September 1, 2006.
These mobilizers will work with campaign committees at community
colleges on our summer campaign, which will include:
-
identifying
opportunities for our community-based postcard campaign (farmers’
markets, festivals, fall fairs, community events, shopping centres,
etc.) and arranging for activists to attend these events with our
display;
-
organizing local
lobbying of MPPs throughout the summer;
-
planning for a
major presence at local labour day events across the province; and
-
planning for
“welcome back” activities at each campus.
Where?
Two mobilizers will be
responsible for campaigns in each of OPSEU Regions 1 to 6; one
mobilizer will be responsible for the campaign in OPSEU Region 7. They
will be responsible for the following colleges:

Region 1 –
Fanshawe, St. Clair, Lambton
-
Region 2 – Mohawk,
Conestoga, Sheridan, Niagara
-
Region 3 – Durham,
Georgian, Fleming
-
Region 4 –
Algonquin, La Cité, Loyalist, St. Lawrence
-
Region 5 – Seneca,
Humber, George Brown, Centennial
-
Region 6 –
Northern, Canadore, Cambrian, Sault, Collège Boréal
-
Region 7 -
Confederation
One position in each of
Regions 4 and 6 will be designated bilingual.
Who can apply?
These jobs are open to
members of OPSEU community college locals and part-time community
college workers (support staff, part-time and sessional faculty,
librarians and counsellors).
How will the mobilizers be
paid?
OPSEU members will be
booked off from their colleges and paid their regular rate of pay.
Part-time college workers who are not employed by a community college
during the summer will be paid $930 per week plus 14% in lieu of
benefits in accordance with the collective agreement between OPSEU and
OPSSU
Who are we looking for?
-
You have
experience in union organizing and mobilizing or in community,
electoral or social justice campaigns.

You have the
ability to inspire and motivate people.
-
You are a
self-starter, comfortable calling new people and building new
relationships.
-
You have high
energy.
-
You are willing to
travel in the region.
-
You are willing to
work flexible hours, often evenings and weekends.
