Summer Job Opportunities

We are looking for mobilizers for our “I Believe in Fairness” community college part-timers campaign

OPSEU is looking for 13 campaign mobilizers for the period from July 3 to September 1, 2006.   These mobilizers will work with campaign committees at community colleges on our summer campaign, which will include:

  •  identifying opportunities for our community-based postcard campaign (farmers’ markets, festivals, fall fairs, community events, shopping centres, etc.) and arranging for activists to attend these events with our display;

  •  organizing local lobbying of MPPs throughout the summer;

  •  planning for a major presence at local labour day events across the province; and

  •  planning for “welcome back” activities at each campus.

Where?

Two mobilizers will be responsible for campaigns in each of OPSEU Regions 1 to 6; one mobilizer will be responsible for the campaign in OPSEU Region 7. They will be responsible for the following colleges:

  •  Region 1 – Fanshawe, St. Clair, Lambton

  •  Region 2 – Mohawk, Conestoga, Sheridan, Niagara

  •  Region 3 – Durham, Georgian, Fleming

  •  Region 4 – Algonquin, La Cité, Loyalist, St. Lawrence

  •  Region 5 – Seneca, Humber, George Brown, Centennial

  •  Region 6 – Northern, Canadore, Cambrian, Sault, Collège Boréal

  •  Region 7 - Confederation

One position in each of Regions 4 and 6 will be designated bilingual.

Who can apply?

These jobs are open to members of OPSEU community college locals and part-time community college workers (support staff, part-time and sessional faculty, librarians and counsellors).

How will the mobilizers be paid?

OPSEU members will be booked off from their colleges and paid their regular rate of pay.  Part-time college workers who are not employed by a community college during the summer will be paid $930 per week plus 14% in lieu of benefits in accordance with the collective agreement between OPSEU and OPSSU
