Demutualization Communique

A committee with representation from both the Academic and Support Joint Insurance Committees has reached a proposed agreement on how to distribute the proceeds of the shares received by the Ontario Council of Regents as a result of the demutualization of SunLife in 2000. The Courts will review this agreement under the Class Proceeding Act. It is anticipated that this matter will be heard in the fall of this year. Details of the agreement can be found in the communiques from the Demutualization Subcommittee.

Update on demutualization of SunLife.

On Oct. 22, 2003, the court approved the negotiated settlement on the distribution of the proceeds from the demutualization of SunLife. The details of the settlement are outlined in Communique #2 dated February 2003. The Communique is posted on the web and was distributed at the colleges. Now that the settlement is approved, the Demutualization sub-committee will meet to review the timeframe for distribution, once the data collection is finalized. CAAT members will be advised when additional information is available.
