April 21, 2004 Negotiations News: Issue 19 Union structure for Workload Task Force has links to all faculty Locals.  Workload Task Force will seek input. OPSEU launches grievances over retro pay.

Ratification date set
The ratification vote for college faculty has been set for March 31. One reason for the long period following the tentative agreement is the requirement that the vote be set up through the College Relations commission. The other reason is to ensure that all colleges are back from March breaks and able to participate in the vote.

Here is the memorandum of settlement between OPSEU and the Colleges Compensation and Appointments Council, signed March 2.

 March 2, 2004  - Tentative two-year agreement reached.

Letter of understanding creates task force on workload. Pay increases of 3% retroactive to Sept. 1, 2003; 0.5% April 1, 2004; 2% Sept. 1, 2004; 1.8% April 1, 2005. More details later.

Other gains see the recognition allowance increase to $1,400 from $700 on April 1, 2005.

Management's insistence on the drug card is gone, and the drug benefit plan remains unchanged.

The agreement says that every college must have a return to work policy for people on long-term disability.  And the joint insurance committee has been charged with finding ways to make retiree benefits more affordable.
