June 22, 2001 Fighting for OUR future: We held a series of consultations with members across the province. The result was a series of shared priorities. They are:
Negotiations, of a sort We met with the employer until late on June 20. We tabled a proposal based on your priorities and input. Management took about five hours to prepare a reply. That reply was a complete disappointment. They refused to address most of your concerns. We told management that they left us no hope of reaching an agreement. Negotiations are over. Click
here for a copy of our proposal ( What’s next? We are convinced that management isn’t seeing the damage they are causing to OPAC. The municipal reaction to our campaign has been fantastic. The resolution has been accepted at every meeting that has considered it. The lobbying of provincial and municipal officials must go into high gear. Your office is responsible for talking to your municipalities. Now that consultations and negotiations have gone as far as they can, we will move to intensive lobbying of AMO and other organizations. The annual meeting of AMO is Aug. 19-21. We will focus on getting those shareholders to fix the problem at OPAC. We will continue to represent your interests, and ask that you continue to support any efforts or actions that your local leaders request. We understand how difficult it is to work productively under the threat of such uncertainty. We will continue to file grievances. If you have not yet signed the group grievances, do so. It sends an important message to management, your leaders and your fellow workers. If we continue to work together, we can resolve this. | ||
