OPSEU ImpacT
Volume 10, Issue 3 • March 23, 2011
I'm supposed to do WHAT?
Have you checked your specs lately?
If you haven’t had a look at your job
specifications in while…maybe you should.
We are getting reports that the employer is
changing job specifications for certain jobs without any notification to the
employees. For example, Property Value Analysts now have additional
responsibilities for “Job Training”…totally unbeknownst to them.
Ask your supervisor for an updated job spec and
have a close look to see if there have been any additional job duties tacked on.
If there has, please notify us at once.
After all, you’d hate to be disciplined for
failing to go get your manager their morning coffee.
Bargaining means being prepared
This year is a bargaining round for MPAC. That
said, it’s never too early to begin personal preparations in case we are faced
with a labour dispute.
Now is a good time to try to get your personal
finances in order. Try to put some extra money away for bills, and make
arrangements with your bank in the event you have to miss a payment. With prior
notice, most banks allow customers to skip a mortgage payment and add it on to
the end of their mortgage.
By being prepared, it accomplishes two big
goals. One, you get a measure of comfort in the face of the unknown. Second, it
sends a VERY strong message to the employer that you are ready to back your
bargaining team in the face of what could be a difficult round of negotiations.
As the old saying goes, “Luck favours the
prepared.”
