Med School Workers
ON STRIKE!

OPSEU Local 677 represents more than 150 clerical, administrative and technical staff at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, with campuses at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay and Laurentian University in Sudbury. NOSM also operates satellite campuses in Sault Ste. Marie and Timmins.

Since September, 2009, OPSEU has been in negotiations for a first contract with NOSM. But instead of progress at the table, negotiators for Local 677 have faced stall tactics, delays and outright disrespect from negotiators for the employer

Frustrated by the slow pace of negotiations, members of the bargaining unit handed their team an overwhelming 97 per cent strike mandate in late July. Members hit the picket lines on Monday morning, August 16. and are on strike for decent jobs, fairness and respect . With classes scheduled to resume the second week in September, management has refused the union’s offer to set future dates for negotiations.

Members of Local 677 are looking for a first contract that will address hours of work, overtime, sick leave, family and wages.
