April 23 Information Picket
About 20 members of Local 217 distributed information about bargaining to Niagara Parks Commissioners and members of the public that entered Oak Hall, the morning of April 23. Commissioners were attending a meeting. It was much appreciated when Niagara Falls MPP Kim Craitor stopped by the information picket
to talk to members.
Dino MacDonnell, Chief Steward and bargaining team member told Craitor, the Commissioners and the public entering Oak Hall, "We want respect. We're not looking for outrageous gains. Employees are the number one resource of the park. Both sides have invested in making the park better."
Dino said the information picket "was a great show of support for our union as negotiations move forward and onward. I am hopeful we can come to an agreement without a lockout or strike."
OPSEU and the Niagara Parks Commission are in mediation April 27 to 29. They are in a legal strike or lockout position May 1.
