Local 361 ratifies agreement with Kennedy House, ending 11-month lock-out
More than 100 members of OPSEU Local 361 at Kennedy House Youth Services, a young offender facility in Uxbridge, ratified a new three-year collective agreement containing wage increases of 4 per cent and a $2,000 salary bonus. The ratification vote June 6 ended the management lock-out of the employees which began June 23, 2001. The employer locked out members when contract talks came to an impasse. The Local successfully defended the contract against dozens of concessions the employer had been demanding, such as: elimination of top-up pay for pregnancy/parental leave; no seniority rights for laid-off workers; no wage increase for four years, and the elimination of all current health and safety language. Local 361 thanks all OPSEU members who showed their support during the long lock-out and helped them of fend off the concessions and end the lock-out.
