Local 276 plans information picket in Owen Sound April 18

OWEN SOUND –  The 26 office and clerical workers in Local 276 of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union will hold an information picket during the Grey Bruce Health Unit’s Board of Health meeting to highlight the situation that they find themselves in while trying to negotiate a renewal of their collective agreement.

They have assembled evidence that shows conclusively that they are about 15 per cent behind their counterparts in other health units and behind in comparable jobs within the Counties of Grey, Bruce, Simcoe, the City of Owen Sound and the province of Ontario.

Published reports show that Dr. Hazel Lynn ranks in the top third of the Medical Officers of Health in the province for wages. These front line workers, called Program Assistants, rank in the lowest one third.

The picket will take place on Friday April 18, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the Health Unit’s current location in Owen Sound at the corner of 1st Avenue West and 9th Street West.
