Information Picket Wednesday at Whitby
Mental Health WHITBY: Members of OPSEU Local 331 will hold an information picket to protest what the union says are violations of the agreement that transferred the staff to a public hospital board: Refusal to provide the agreed wage increase of 2.5 per cent for Jan. 1, 2007. This was negotiated in the OPS agreement and was expected to be implemented under the transfer agreement. (In comparison, North Bay Psychiatric Hospital is abiding by their transfer agreement and providing OPS negotiated wage increases to their employees.) Refusal to provide a drug card which was scheduled to commence Nov. 1, 2006, as part of our transfer agreement. Refusal to provide WSIB top-up and no interruption of wages for members when off on WSIB as negotiated under the transfer agreement.
The unionized staff of WMHC is also frustrated by the slow pace of first contract bargaining with this new employer. “OPSEU members at Whitby Mental Health Centre seek a good collective agreement with a fair wage”, said Joan Gates RN, President of OPSEU 331. The union applied for conciliation Nov. 15, 2006. OPSEU represents 950 members at the Centre. -30-
