Implement the Romanow Report now!

Roy Romanow has delivered a report that reflects Canadian values and priorities, but Canada's political leaders are balking, haggling and ignoring the people's message. It's time for us to tell our Members of Parliament to implement the Romanow Report. Act now! The future of Medicare depends on it!

Open Letter To The First Ministers On Health Care
From The National Union Of Public And General Employees (Nupge)

Crucial decisions that will affect our future will be made in the forthcoming First Ministers' meeting on health care planned for early 2003. Prime Minister Chrétien and the Premiers must hear strong and loud the voice of Canadians who are eager to strengthen Medicare.

We urge you to sign the online petition demanding full implementation of the Romanow Report recommendations. It only takes a minute! Please access the petition at:

Events are unfolding exactly as Canadians feared they would. Romanow has delivered a report that reflects their values and priorities and now the nation's political leaders are balking, haggling and ignoring the people's message.

OPSEU hospital professionals at May 1 Medicare Event

United for National Public Medicare,  a coalition of health care workers from CUPE, ONA, OPSEU and SEIU Canada, held very successful information pickets in downtown Toronto on May 1 to bring attention to the Ontario Health Coalition's Yes! National Public Medicare campaign.

The day began with a leafleting campaign outside of Union Station.   After handing out more than 9,000 campaign tabloids to commuters in less than 90 minutes, the group headed north to the site of the former King's Health Centre, one of Ontario's first private for-profit health care centres, to lay a wreath, declaring "private health care, rest in peace!"    In the early afternoon, information pickets continued at several hospitals in the downtown core, including Princess Margaret, Mount Sinai and the Toronto General Hospital site.  Several hundred members of CUPE, ONA, OPSEU, SEIU and supporters turned out!
In all, close to 500 signatures were gathered for the petition to be forwarded to the Romanow Commission.   Media attended the events, including CFMT and Toronto's CP24.  Congratulations to all  for a fantastic day!
