OPSEU Local 575 and Local 581 and The Scarborough Hospital

Highlights of the SARS grievance settlement

  • OPSEU took the position that any increases had to be paid to all members of the bargaining unit.

  • The hospital acknowledges that wages are a key issue that have to be negotiated with OPSEU.

  • The hospital acknowledges a violation of the collective agreements for failing to negotiate wage increases and other enhancements with OPSEU.

The Board ordered:

  • The hospital must stop negotiating directly with members of the bargaining units regarding terms and conditions of employment,

  • The hospital must stop extending extra compensation to bargaining unit members without prior agreement with OPSEU.

  • The monetary remedy will be paid as follows:

  • The hospital will pay OPSEU $8000.00

  • The hospital will pay Local 575 $5607.38

  • The hospital will pay Local 581 $6392.62

(Total= $20,000)
