NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 26, 2006

OPSEU hospital professionals ratify two year deal at Ottawa Hospital

OTTAWA: The members of Ontario Public Service Employees Union Local 464 ratified a new two-year contract for the health professionals working in more than 100 diagnostic, rehabilitative and therapeutic health professions at The Ottawa Hospital, by a substantial margin.

More than 2,100 health professionals will receive wage increases of 3 per cent retroactive to April 1, 2005, and an additional 3 per cent, retroactive to April 1, 2006.

"This deal has important elements that will help our hospital recruit and retain these key professionals," said Tami MacDonald, chair of the Local 464 bargaining team.

"This contract, with its improved balance between work-and home-life, is a good first step towards the Ottawa Hospital being nationally recognized as the academic health sciences employer of choice.

Our team was pleased to have achieved this deal and to be able to recommend it to the members."

Achievements in this round also included: * Improvements to benefits, including vision care and dental, * More flexible working arrangements * Better working conditions for part-time employees.

The collective agreement expires March 31, 2007.
