St. Joseph’s Healthcare, Hamilton

On Oct. 31, 2007, St. Joseph’s Healthcare in Hamilton will close the three remaining community labs that it operates. The collection facilities to close are at the following locations:

16 Cross St. Dundas
25 Charlton Ave. E, Hamilton
1119 Fennell Ave. E , Hamilton

About 20 full and part-time employees will be affected. Lay-off notices are to be issued at the end off July.

These labs see approx. 500 patients per day, many of whom are elderly or disabled. They have come to rely on the outstanding service they receive and they are comforted by the familiar faces they see when they arrive. These closures are more than an inconvenience. It is a significant disruption in the continuity of care that is important to their well-being.

Patients will now have no choice but to use private for- profit facilities. See www.opseu206.org for more information.
