The next step: lobby the politicians
Now that OPSEU and the OHA have reached agreement on a central arbitration process, the next step is ensuring that your MPP (and nominated candidates) know what the stakes are in this round of central arbitration.
We need to tell them about the shortages and what has to be done to turn this situation around. And we need to let them know that our members will be watching their performance on our issues and evaluating it on election day.
We will provide materials that local activists can provide to MPPs and candidates in their riding.
Many of our central hospitals are in ridings where the race could be very tight. OPSEU-HPD members and their families could play a deciding role in the process.
The message to MPPs is: “Staff shortages put your health and the health of your constituents at risk.”
In the days ahead we will provide materials for hospital professionals to use when meeting with politicians in your area.

OPSEU part of Ontario Health Coalition campaign
The Ontario Health Coalition (OHC) will be running a campaign this spring to strengthen medicare and stop for-profit health care.
The OHC’s plan is to build a coordinated and cohesive cross-province campaign to:
• stop the encroachment of the for-profit healthcare industry;
• win the implementation of the Romanow recommendations;
• build towards the provincial election to ensure our issues are key election issues;
• increase opposition to politicians and parties that oppose Public Medicare;
• set the stage to win progressive health care reform.
