CUPE Local 79 (City of Toronto) urges support for Hospital Professionals

To all union activists:

I urge you to lend support to our sister union OPSEU which has endured the Tory onslaught on public services and public governance. Since the Tories came to power they have decimated over 50% of public service jobs in this province. They have turned back the clock on labour relations 100 hundred years. They have opened up our economy to foreign exploitation. They have systemically punished and criminalized poor and vulnerable citizens of Ontario. Public sector unions including OPSEU and CUPE have borne the brunt of the battle against these tyrants and their brutal corporate agenda.

OPSEU is now facing an employer that is refusing to negotiate for nearly a year. During our last strike OPSEU generously donated almost $20,000 to our Strike Hardship Fund. They made this generous offer despite just coming off an 8 week strike with the Tories. OPSEU needs our support. Please assist our sister union in her time of trouble. A rally is being planned in Toronto for February 13. Please take time and attend and lend support. The flyers attached suggest what else you might do to help.

In solidarity,

Paul Edwards, Acting Chair Local 79 Strike Committee
