Members mobilizing for a great contract All the elements are coming together in our unified effort to achieve a great central contract. Members across the province are determined to see major improvements in this round. They are adamant that long-standing issues of pay,
working conditions, benefits and job security will be addressed.
Bargaining News
Bargaining opens on January 30, when the Union and the OHA will meet to table their proposals. Negotiations will take place on January 31, February 1, February 11-15, March 4-8 and March 25 –28. Discussions continue on the Memorandum of Conditions document.
Your bargaining team met in mid-December, to determine the method of bargaining. It decided against using Interest Based Negotiations in this round, in favour of a more traditional approach, emphasizing full communication and dialogue between the parties.
The team will meet again during January 14-18 to work on the demands.
Mobilizing News
Members across the province are mobilizing like never before to support the bargaining team and fight for a great contract. They see a fundamental connection between the contract and the quality of patient care. At a time when demand for care is skyrocketing, chronic shortages in virtually every profession have
combined with already lean staff complement levels to create unacceptable and even risky conditions for patients.
Workers are exhausted, working burnout hours and juggling competing work demands, all the while providing their services to the best of their ability. Meanwhile, waiting lists grow, waiting time for results grows and the risk of mistakes grows.
Members are determined to turn things around with contract improvements. Their plan is to support the central team with action in the workplace and in the community.
Public, Professional and Proud
Members are planning events across the province to generate awareness of the issues. Contact your local executive to find out how you can get involved.
Our campaign will be built around the theme of “Public, Professional and Proud” which expresses our commitment to public health care, our professionalism, and our pride both in union membership and in the work we do in our hospitals.
If you are not part of central bargaining, you can still be part of our effort to support a strong central agreement that will set the tone for agreements across Ontario.
Buttons, Rallies
We’ll have buttons available for you to wear before bargaining begins. Wear them at work and out in the community.
We’ll be holding rallies in many communities Jan. 30, to support bargaining in each community. Press releases and other materials will be prepared to let the public know about our campaign.
Telling our story
Members at Local 444, Kingston General Hospital made headlines in the local daily newspaper with their generous charitable efforts over the holidays. The article increased public awareness of hospital professionals in the Kingston community. We will continue to tell our story to the media and the public.
