Frustrating week in bargaining
Our second week of central negotiations was very
frustrating.
The hospitals took a large amount of time preparing a
response on the non-economic issues, and we are
disappointed to report that only minute progress has
been made, especially on the job security issues.
Despite our repeated explanation of the importance of
our job security proposals, the hospitals’ response is
all about their need for “flexibility.”
Flexibility seems to be more important to the
hospitals than making a commitment to our professions
and the work we do.
We also received the hospitals’ response on some of
the monetary issues, and again, there’s not much
progress.
Our last week of bargaining is next week, April
24-27. Then we have mediation scheduled from April
28-30.
It’s going to be a busy week. The hospitals are going
to have to take a dose of their own medicine and bend a
little (actually, a lot) if they are serious about
reaching a settlement.
