BARGAINING GETS UNDERWAY
Your bargaining
team met with the Employer on June 23 to 26. The first day the parties
exchanged our documents. We are now in the process of exchanging positions with
the management team on various non-monetary issues such as seniority, job
postings, job security and labour-management relations.
We have told the Employer that
successor rights, which is keeping what we already have, is an important issue
for us.
The mood at the table is positive.
There was common ground on a number of items and others were close enough that a
little effort was all it took to reach agreement.
We are making headway to achieve
the foundations of a first collective agreement.
This will not be a fast process.
Because this is a first agreement, everything – all working terms and conditions
– has to be negotiated. There is still a lot of work left to finalize an
agreement.
We will be back at the bargaining
table on September 22 to 25. Unfortunately, due to summer schedules, this is
earliest we can return to the table.
In solidarity,
Your Bargaining Team
