CBS Provincial Labour Adjustment Committee (PLAC) Update

April 15, 2010 The parties have begun negotiations on a comprehensive labour adjustment plan that expands on the details in the original CBS Provincial Labour Adjustment Committee (PLAC) framework that addresses application, union recognition, access to work, notice of layoff, election process, local labour adjustment committees and terms and conditions of employment. Further details will be shared as finalized.

There was general discussion about the FTE numbers associated with theBrampton worksite with more detailed staffing plans in the early summer 2010. The anticipated notice of layoff and election process will be provided in the Fall of 2010. There have been discussions about the remaining work the committee must complete and have adjusted the meeting dates accordingly.

Future meetings will focus not only on processes, but also the supporting tools and documents needed to enable affected employees to make informed decisions. The committee will be providing standardized training to local union and management in advance of the notice of layoff and election process.

Dear Sisters and Brothers

You gave us a mandate to negotiate a collective agreement with no concessions...and that’s what we’re delivering. At the table, the support of the 98 per cent strike vote gave us the voice of the members, and the employer heard it loud and clear. "No" to concessions on hours of work, days off and consecutive weekends. With the assistance of conciliation officer John Quinn, your team arrived at a negotiated settlement. Please read the signed memorandum of settlement that the bargaining team you elected is recommending. Copies will be provided at the information meetings at the scheduled ratification votes as posted in Bloodletters

Come out and vote - see you there!

Brenda Thompson, Bargaining Team Chair, Local 210
