OPSEU members ratify collective agreement with Art Gallery of Ontario
July 5, 2006
Members of OPSEU Local 535 at the Art
Gallery of Ontario voted today to ratify a four-year collective
agreement. The new contract was approved by a strong majority of both
full-time and part-time employees.
The agreement provides key job security
protections during the AGO’s major construction project, including a six
to eight month period when the gallery will be closed to the public in
2007-2008.
Contract highlights include:
-
Increased notice to the
union of any planned layoffs
-
A ban on non-union
personnel performing bargaining unit work if it would result in a
layoff
-
Extended recall rights for
all laid-off employees until after the gallery reopens in 2008
-
Improved layoff, severance
and recall rights for part-time employees
-
Wage increases of 2.65 per
cent for the first year of the contract, retroactive to Dec. 1, 2005,
and 3 per cent in each of the next three years.
-
Annual bonuses of $500 for
full-time employees and $75-$300 for part-timers, in each year of the
four-year deal.
-
Benefit improvements,
including coverage for the cost of eye exams and increased coverage
for paramedical services.
The agreement with AGO management was
reached on June 28th, just three hours before OPSEU’s strike
deadline.
The new contract is retroactive to Dec.
1, 2005, and expires on Nov. 30, 2009.
