Bargaining News
It has been a very busy 2 months since we chose to organize with OPSEU. We have had 3 membership meetings to elect representation and discuss the issues pertaining to our local plan, the most important of which is negotiations.
In each meeting, many members raised concerns and sought clarification around negotiating our collective agreement.
In the first phase of the negotiating process, the members elected their team:
· Tony Antidormi, representing members at Church St., Prince Charles and Queenston;
· Kristy Burnett-Kilby representing members at Merrittville;
· Judy Robertson representing Pat-time/contract. relief members; and
· myself as local president.
Mark Kotanen is our staff negotiator. Together we make up your bargaining team.
The team met to compile the surveys and review the language of the collective agreement and then present it to the membership to confirm the survey results. At the demand-setting meeting, members adopted a motion to give the negotiating team flexibility to represent membership interests at the bargaining table.
Your demands have now been put into contract language by your team, and we will meet the employer on Monday September, 13 to give your proposals to the employer. The employer may also have proposals for us to consider. We have further meeting dates on September 14, 15, 20 and 21.
I ask that you each encourage and support your team as they are representing YOUR interests at he table.
This round of bargaining is all about RESPECT. We want the employer to recognize the work we do, the service we deliver and our expertise in delivering service.
In Solidarity
