BARGAINING UPDATES

November 5, 2004

Local 214
Niagara Child and Youth Services
Bargaining Bulletin #3

THIS WEEK IN BARGAINING

We met on Nov 1, 2, 3 with Management, it started slow but resulted in a flurry of activity at the end of third day. Goodwill continues to exist with an expectation of the non-monetary items being settled on our next Bargaining day(s). Two major issues around Job Security are still outstanding.

Your solidarity is key to the Collective Agreement the Team is negotiating. Your continued action and support remains vital at this time of the negotiation process, continue to wear your OPSEU pins on the days we are Bargaining. On November 16, 17 & 18 we are hoping to get to the monetary issues.

GET INVOLVED

We are building as a larger Unit within our Local, therefore we will be calling on our members and community partners to show support through continued actions of solidarity in the workplace and attending rallies. Rallies provide a 'visual' message to our employer of the support our community partners have for us in the workplace. As we call on our community partners including other Unions to support our members in our struggle to get a fair and respectful Contract. We need to show our solidarity with them by participating in their rallies, community events and strike pickets.

The next action requesting your participation is a Labour Breakfast, at the CAW 199 Hall on Bunting Rd., on Mon. Nov. 8, 7:30-8:30 am, there is no cost for the breakfast, however, various fund-raising activities for the United Way will take place during the breakfast.

BE THERE

As a kick-off for our Community 'Bargaining Support' Campaign a SOLIDARITY RALLY B-B-Q LUNCH will take place in front of the Niagara Child and Youth Services (NCYS) office, 243 Church St., St. Catharines on Wed. Nov. 17, noon to 1:00 pm sponsored by the St. Catharines & District Labour Council (SCDLC) Flying Squad/Support Committee. We need all members to encourage their family and friends in the community to stop by and show their support for our 'Bargaining Support' Campaign. All members are encouraged to attend the Rally for lunch on the 17th, the Bargaining Team will be in attendance on their lunch break from Bargaining that day.

Yours in Solidarity,

Judy Robertson
Chair of Bargaining Team, Local 214

Ann-Marie Champagnie
