BARGAINING UPDATES

December 20, 2004

Local 214

Niagara Child and Youth Services
Bargaining Bulletin #4

Our ‘Bargaining Support’ Solidarity Rally held on Nov. 17 at Noon was a success with over 50 members, community partners, and our family and friends attending!! A big thank-you to all who attended as well as the St. Catharines and District Labour Council Flying Squad-Strike Support Committee, who provided the B-B-Q and all the food!!

TO DATE IN BARGAINING

On November 16, 17 & 18 the Bargaining Team met with Management and settled the non-monetary items. Your Bargaining Team and Management exchanged monetary proposals on Nov. 18. Our next Bargaining dates are set for Jan.4, 5, 6, 17,18,19,20,21, 2005. Once settlement is reached on the monetary items a ratification vote takes place, at that time you will have the opportunity to accept or refuse the proposed changes to the Collective Agreement as negotiated by your Team with our Employer.

THANKS KRISTY

It is with regret the Team accepted the resignation of our Team member Kristy Burnett-Kilby due to personal reasons. As the negotiation process is entering a mid-point phase it would be difficult to introduce a new member at this time, the Team has decided to go forward with the remaining members. Kristy’s contributions are gratefully acknowledged by the Team and the membership.

GET INVOLVED

Your continued support is crucial to the strength of your Team at the Bargaining Table. Our strength comes from individual members coming together in Solidarity with a common goal of working within a workplace that extends a respectful and fair work environment for all employees. Our common goal as an amalgamated workforce is to maintain the best of both previous workplace cultures and have this reflected in our Collective Agreement. YOUR SUPPORT OF THE BARGAINING TEAM IS NEEDED FOR THIS TO HAPPEN!! Remember to wear your OPSEU pin on the days we are Bargaining, this may seem a small contribution but it is a way of expressing your Solidarity with the Team in the workplace.

BE THERE

Our Unit is holding a Membership Meeting, to allow members to ask questions about the process and to review the roles and responsibilities within the Unit. The meeting will take place on Jan. 12, 2005, at 5:00pm at the OPSEU office in Fonthill. Members not able to attend due to employment conflicts can forward their questions to Ann-Marie at iamchampagnie@yahoo.ca This meeting is being held as our members have been requesting information from the Bargaining Team regarding the process. Please make every effort to attend and have your questions answered. Being part of a unionized workplace is new to many of us, for this reason our attendance to keep ourselves informed is especially important.

Yours in Solidarity,

Judy Robertson
