OPSEU
members mark National Child Day in their workplaces and communities
OPSEU members wore blue lapel ribbons in their
workplaces, held lunch-time walks in their communities and ran display
tables at local malls to mark National Child Day today. The events were
well-covered by the local media and members reported they got a good
response from the public.
The activities were part of a joint outreach campaign
with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) to call for
sustainable funding for children’s aid and children’s mental health.
OPSEU members distributed special message bookmarks and
asked for people to sign the November 20, 2009, Declaration of Concern
for Vulnerable Children and Youth. To read the bookmark,

The Declaration, jointly sponsored by OPSEU, CUPE, the
Communications Energy and Paperworkers Union, Ontario Association of
Children’s Aid Societies and Children’s Mental Health Ontario, calls on
the Ontario government to fulfill its obligation to protect our children
from harm and provide for their healthy development before it’s too
late. To read the Declaration
