This is NOT
the final offer
Under the Labour Act, an
employer can make a final offer, and demand that the members of the bargaining unit vote
on it.
We asked the employer if this was a final offer, and we
were told, "No."
That shows we agree on one thing. We dont think you
would accept this package, and the employer doesnt think you would either.
This means there is a better offer in the wings. It may not
be good enough to settle for either, but it will be better.
We told the employer we were rejecting this package, and we
also said we were ready to meet at any time to work on the deal that will give us a
contract.
What will that deal hold? A grievable wage structure with
fair rates, no short-term layoffs, decent job posting language, a benefits package in the
contract, justice for contract workers.
Isnt that what we all want?
The place to get it is at the bargaining table. The way to
get it is by standing strong. And get it, we will.
The final offer
is the one we accept
