| October 20, 1999. No.2
Weve been without an up-dated contact since
November 1998. You think management would want to say lets make a deal and sign a
decent contract. Just the opposite has happened. We are far apart on at least 4 major
issues. Here are the highlights:
SHOW US THE MONEY!
0% increase for existing staff for the life of a new
collective agreement. The employer wants a 3-year agreement effective date of
ratification. This means 4 years without a raise. Who are they kidding?
ITS A RACE TO THE BOTTOM FOR CHEAP WAGES
Management wants a two-tiered wage grid for new hires.
Lower wages now and they wont stop for the rest of the staff in the next round.
WORK FOR NO WAGES Quality of service suffers
The employer wants to expand the number of volunteers. The
employer says not our jobs, but just a few duties Tell us, what is the difference.
Thats the employers real agenda keep expanding the number of volunteers
and take away our work. We know the quality of service to the public suffers when you
dont work for wages.
BENEFITS - CONCESSIONS
Concessions and take-aways with our benefits package
rollbacks on our dental plan, physiotherapy, and others. Were after improved
benefits for retirees. We have a plan to save to the employer money on benefits and they
wont take it.

TALK TO YOUR BARGAINING TEAM
AND VOTE!
The bargaining team said enough. We are applying for
conciliation. Thats where a Ministry of Labour conciliator is assigned to help the
parties reach an agreement if possible.
We dont think from the position taken by management
so far that they will move unless we show we will stick together. We know a strike vote
will help make the difference. We want management to know that we are serious. The quality
of the collective agreement depends upon the quality of our strike vote.
One strong voice means a better contract!
