The Advocate at the Table

Instant Advocate - Monday, April 3, 2000

We know everyone wants to know what kind of progress we made in conciliation last week. The short and sad answer is, very little.
Yes, we moved a few small pieces around, but OPAC refused to respond on any of the important issues.

There is No Change in their position on:

  • Wages
  • Contract staff
  • Hours of Work
  • Overtime
  • Seniority.

Where does this leave  us?

We certainly canıt recommend the OPAC position currently on the table.

This week is the week of the annual OPSEU convention. We are taking advantage of that large gathering to pull together a meeting of OPAC delegates to convention and representatives of OPAC offices that donıt have delegates attending.

That meeting will be Friday evening, April 7.

We will give a full report on bargaining. We will also prepare detailed sheets on the employerıs position on key issues which delegates can take back and distribute to you a week from today.

We will be seeking feedback at that meeting, but it is pretty clear that OPAC is going to require more pressure before they move.

So donıt be surprised next Monday if you hear that the next step will be moving toward a strike vote.
