We have a contract

OPSEU members at OPAC turned out across the province to ratify our new collective agreement.

We had an 84 per cent turnout for the vote, and 80 per cent of the voters approved of the new contract.

Thank you for the vote of confidence and for your support throughout this difficult round of bargaining.

While we didn’t achieve everything we would have wanted, we have negotiated a solid first agreement with OPAC. This forms the basis for developing a mature labour relations environment in our agency.

With ratification of the new contract, we gain grievance rights and a formal structure defining our relationship with management. From here, we can only go forward to build a strong bargaining unit that will speak up effectively for our members.

In reaching this settlement, we had solid support from a number of people on OPSEU staff, and we were able to draw on the full depth of the union’s resources. We would particularly like to thank our negotiator, Brian Gould; our researcher, Ruth Hamilton; our campaigns officer Megan Park; district supervisor Frank Rooney; a host of staff representatives in OPSEU regional offices who worked on strike mobilization and on our strike and ratification votes, support staff members Mary Anne Di Adamo and Tina Furman, and our communications officer Katie FitzRandolph.

It was a great pleasure working with that team of professionals, and their expertise was an important factor in helping us reach the agreement we achieved.

In solidarity, Will Presley, on behalf of the team
