Ontario Health Association demutualization update
August 17, 2010
The OHA and representatives of its members’ unionized and non-unionized employees have entered into a Settlement
Agreement to distribute the proceeds arising from the demutualization of certain insurance policies that Mutual Life had issued to the OHA.
Justice Perell of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice certified this application as a class proceeding and approved the terms of settlement.

OPSEU seeks court approval to distribute $22 million settlement
to some hospital employees
July 5, 2010 OPSEU has entered into an
agreement with the OHA and other health care unions to distribute
$22 million in demutualization proceeds through a contribution
holiday to those employees who participated in the long term
disability policy held by Mutual Life in 1997.
OPSEU and the other unions, along with the OHA, is
proceeding to court to have this money distributed through a class

Wind up of Simcoe County District School Board Insurance Trust
October 13, 2009 Between 1969 and 2007, certain
employees of the Simcoe County District School Board received benefits
administered pursuant to an Insurance Trust sponsored by the Simcoe
County District School Board and certain employee representative groups
including OPSEU. These parties to the Insurance Trust have commenced an
Application with the Superior Court of Justice to approve the wind up of
the Insurance Trust and subsequent distribution of the remaining assets.
