OPSEU's response to the recommendations of the Ontario Expert Commission on Pensions

February 27, 2009

This week, OPSEU has responded to the recommendations of the Ontario Expert Commission on Pensions. In the brief, OPSEU calls for universal pension coverage for all workers under a new, non-profit, public Ontario Pension Agency.

Among other recommendations to the Minister of Finance, OPSEU called for an end to split pensions caused by divestment, a limit to conversions from defined benefit pension plans and an agency that works in the interests of plan members.

OPSEU also urged the Minister to extend support of jointly trusteed plans and provide public education for plan members who wish to become more involved in the administration of their plan.
