A practical course for local finances
December 10, 2008
I am proud to report that a course specifically for Local
Treasurers will be launched in February. This is something that I feel OPSEU
locals have needed for a long time as all of us struggle with our finances,
often with little help or direction. It wil help develop a smooth
relationship between the locals and the Accounting Unit at head office,
where such items as membership expenses and local rebates are handled. The
initial course will be offered to 25 local treasurers and will be held at
OPSEU head office. It will be a hands-on, practical look at effective
financial management of a local. The course clarifies the Treasurer’s roles
and responsibilities, basic policy and procedures, how the money works, and
the systems for accounting for it, and how to develop and present a budget
in the local. As fellow Treasurers, you will find you are not alone in your
questions of how to fulfill your responsibilities effectively.
The workshop will be limited to a participants who are
currently Local Treasurers. Confirmation will be on a first-response basis
for up to three participants per region. Applications will be date-stamped
upon arrival. After three per region have been confirmed, we will take the
next four people spread across regions.
To apply, please fill out the
attached application and personal assistance form as soon as possible.
