Toronto Jail SAROC marks Black History Month

February 13, 2009

The Systemic Anti-Racism Organizational Change committee at the Toronto Jail held a celebration of Black History Month on Tuesday, Feb. 10.  Canadian Idol celebrity Farley Flex was well-received as the motivational speaker for the event.

About 60 guests enjoyed a full Caribbean-style lunch at St. John’s Presbyterian Church, across from the jail. The lunch was prepared by Toronto Jail kitchen staff, members of OPSEU Local 530.

“I think the turnout shows that there is a lot of support not only for Black History Month but for the work of the SAROC as well,” said OPSEU President Smokey Thomas. “It was a really nice event.”
