Pay increase delays ridiculous
According to the latest information from the employer, the pay increases we won after our eight-week strike won’t be showing up until some time in the fall. The money should be coming to us right now.
Why the delay? All kinds of reasons are being given, from computer program problems to post-strike delays, to whatever other excuses that can be thought up. None of the government’s excuses make sense. We know how quickly the employer changed the Public Service Act regulations in order to pay managers double
their rate of pay for overtime worked during the strike (including managers who weren’t normally entitled to overtime at all). The government also acted quickly to pay out the overtime to these same managers (in one large lump sum) almost immediately after the strike was over.
The bureaucrats who tried to bust our union during the strike were extremely disappointed with the results. These bureaucrats are like the coaches of a team that is down 6-1, with thirty seconds to go, and send out their goons to hack and slash and start fights.
The bureaucrats know they lost the game, but they’re trying to get in their last pathetic shots. Let’s not make it easy for them to get away with this.
We have initiated legal action to rectify this abominable situation. In addition, we strongly suggest individual members call and e-mail the office of Management Board chair David Tsubouchi every day, and politely ask when our raises are coming through.
The strike is over. It’s time for the bureaucrats to grow up…and pay up.
“Pepper memo” has the wrong flavour
A memo released by the Ministry of Public Safety and Security states that the OPSEU Ministry Occupational Health and Safety Committee has agreed to let inmates have access to pepper with their meals. This is in error, as the Committee reached no such agreement.
OPSEU still has concerns over the spice being utilized as a weapon, and talks are continuing with the Ministry.
Staff are asked to monitor the distribution of pepper in their facilities, and use their judgement if concerns arise.
