Agreement on the job trades

An agreement was reached Dec. 2, 2008 between OPSEU and the Ministry of Government Services - affecting the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services (MCSCS) and the Ministry of Community and Social Services (MCSS) - with respect to transitional job trades for job-threatened Developmental Services (DS) workers.

Under the terms of the agreement, 10 correctional officers will be given a monetary exit opportunity. Those positions will then be utilized for transitional job trade purposes for 10 job-threatened DS workers who have successfully completed the correctional officer training program.

“We are pleased to have been successful in the negotiation of this cross-ministry agreement with the Ministry of Government Services,” said ComSoc MERC Chair Roxanne Barnes. Corrections MERC Chair Eddy Almeida agrees. “This agreement proves the importance of the Factor 80 and Appendix 9,” Almeida said. “These provisions are under attack, and we encourage the members to support their MERC and Bargaining Teams while negotiations continue.”

For more information on the agreement, contact MCSS MERC Chair Roxanne Barnes at 416-527-2791 or Eddy Almeida at 289-439-2135. The full agreement is available on the OPSEU website.

Members are also reminded to stay up to date on bargaining information by going to http://www.opseu.org/ops/barg2008/index.htm.
