Seven-week strike ends, OPSEU Local 334 ratifies contract with Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Aid Society

December 2, 2011

After a seven-week strike, an agreement has been reached between OPSEU Local 334 members and management at the Kawartha-Haliburton Children's Aid Society (KHCAS).

Without a contract since March 2011, more than 130 workers at KHCAS walked off the job on October 17th, when negotiations broke down on key issues related to workload, job security, hours-of-work and layoff language.

Local 334 contended that management created oppressive and stressful working conditions, with poor job security and extremely long hours, both during the week and on weekends.

Today’s tentative agreement was reached by Local 334 and KHCAS management after three days back at the bargaining table with a provincial mediator.
