More than 1000 turn out for Fanshawe College vote mob
May
13, 2011 Organized through the joint efforts of the University of
Western Ontario and Fanshawe College Student Unions, the largest Rick
Mercer vote mob took place on Saturday, April 30th. The event took place
in Victoria Park, London and was attended by over 1000 people, mostly
youth. Organizers of the event "hoped to encourage youth to vote and
have their voices heard." The crowds sang, shouted "hello, we’re
voting!", and promised to vote in the upcoming federal election,
countering views that youth are apathetic and disconnected when it comes
to politics.
Attended
by Region One PYC Representative, Kaylan Bartholomew was able to attend
this event as a result of her campaign work with Irene Mathyssen.
Mathyssen was the successful incumbent NDP MP for London-Fanshawe. As
Kaylan put it: “’it was a great event and awesome to see the enthusiasm
of all involved and to share in this amazing event!”
