Pride Day Celebrations 2011
Pride is about being proud,
free, and accepting of all
May 19, 2011 June is designated as Pride Month.
We celebrate our history, diversity and pride. We celebrate all those
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual, Transgender, Intersexed, Queer,
Questioning and Two-Spirited (LGBTTIQQ2S). We march for the
transgendered kid who sits alone in his room too afraid to go to school
for fear of violence and rejection. We send a message that an inclusive
world should accept everyone regardless of their sexuality and should
have no tolerance for hate crimes. We challenge the stereotypes and
discrimination faced by all.
Public services help us All belong
This is a call to let everyone know that
they have a place in our community, whether as gay people, families,
friends or allies. We invite you to attend Pride events in your area
and meet the members of the Rainbow Alliance at our OPSEU tables.
This year, we are participating in the
following Prides. We will update this page as more information becomes
available.
September 7, 2010 Braving high heat and humidity, OPSEU
took to the streets for the 25th anniversary of Capital Pride in Ottawa.

OPSEU members participate at World Outgames conference
July 27, 2009 The World Outgames 2nd
International Conference on LGBT Human Rights was held in Copenhagen from 27
- 29 July 2009, as a part of World Outgames in 2009. The name of the
conference “Love of Freedom – Freedom to Love” summarized what it was all
about: the love for the freedom that allows us our love life, our sexuality
and our gender identity without fear or discrimination or criminalization.
Under this banner, the overall goal of the conference was to
reaffirm and defend the human right of every LGBT person in the world to
participate fully, equally and openly in every part of life.
About 800 delegates from 85 countries participated in the
3-day conference. Wade Stevenson, recipient of OPSEU’s 2009 Individual Human
Rights Award and Judy Robertson, former Chair of the Rainbow Alliance,
presented one of the workshops, based on the accommodation process developed
cooperatively between OPSEU and the Ontario Public Service.
