New Harassment and Discrimination Prevention Policy, Guide and Forms
An extensive review of the previous Harassment and
Discrimination Policy began in June 2007, and involved members of the
Provincial Human Rights Committee and the Provincial Women’s Committee, as well
as Equity Unit staff and external legal counsel.
In March 2009, the Executive Board approved the Harassment
and Discrimination Prevention Policy. The Policy is much shorter, adheres
more closely to the Ontario Human Rights Code, and calls for the
development of an Administration and Procedures Manual in consultation with
Equity Chairs.
Since approval of the Policy, the Equity Unit has continued to
work with the Review Committee, as well as the Equity Chairs, to finalize a
Procedures Manual. The Procedures Manual clearly spells out how complaints are
processed, as well as how recommendations and remedies are implemented and
enforced.
In addition to the current Policy and the Procedures Manual, the
Equity Unit has also produced several new supporting documents: a plain language
Guide to the Complaint Process, a complaint form, a response form, and a
chart of the complaint process.
