Human Rights Conference

International Youth Day

Held each year in August, International Youth Day (IYD) is organized to highlight issues relevant to young workers in the labour movement. The event is typically a day and a half full of interactive discussion, educational workshops and guest speakers. The 5th Annual IYD is scheduled for August 9-10th at the Wellesley Membership Centre. The call for applications is now available and can be found here

Joint Leadership Meeting

Emerging from the 2001 Convention, this meeting was initiated to ensure that equity issues were well integrated into all aspects of our union’s business.  The day focuses on creating awareness and skills related to key human rights and equity issues for the central leadership in the Union. This year’s 11th Annual Joint Leadership Meeting will take place on September 18, 2012.  More information will be made available soon.

Social Mapping Project

The Social Mapping Implementation Task Force has begun major plans for developing key actions and the Phase III membership systems report is almost complete.

Women’s Conference  

The 2011 Women’s Conference “Taking Root: The Human Rights of Food and Water” took place from November 4-6th at the Delta Chelsea in downtown Toronto. Focused on food security and our human rights, the conference brought together over 150 participants from across all regions and many different sectors in OPSEU. With thought-provoking speakers, interactive exercises and an in-depth workshop on the topic, the conference was a lively and successful event.
