Call for OPSEU Harassment and Discrimination Advisors and Investigators

The Equity Unit is seeking Harassment and Discrimination Advisors and Investigators. All interested applicants are encouraged to submit a statement of interest to the Equity Unit by October 21, 2011 at 5 p.m.

The Equity Unit is seeking Harassment and Discrimination Complaint Advisors and Investigators in the following regions:

  • Region 2 – seeking one (1) Advisor, one (1) Investigator

  • Region 4 – seeking two (2) Investigators

  • Region 5 – seeking one (1) Investigator

  • Region 6 – seeking one(1)  Advisor

  • Region 7 – seeking one (1) Investigator

Advisors will:

  • Handle initial inquiries and provide human rights advice

  • Draft complaints/responses

  • Prepare mediation plans/strategies and conduct mediation

  • Represent complainants and respondents during investigations and appeals

Qualifications:

  • OPSEU member in good standing

  • Understanding of human-rights and Code related legislation

  • Proven communication, interpersonal, negotiation and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to provide human rights advise, develop effective mediation strategies, conduct mediations, and represent complainants and respondents in investigations and appeals

Investigators will:

  • Prepare investigation strategies and plans

  • Review case documents and gather information

  • Interview parties

  • Prepare case analysis reports and recommendations

  • Conduct conciliation meetings

Qualifications:

  • OPSEU member in good standing

  • Understanding of human-rights and Code related legislation

  • Proven planning, research, analytical and time-management skills

  • Excellent information-gathering, communication, interpersonal, analytic writing, negotiation and problem solving skills

  • Ability to conduct effective conciliation meetings

Please note that this is a voluntary position but expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with OPSEU policy.

Selected candidates are also expected to commit to the positions on a long-term basis. Members who are selected for an interview must be available from November 14th until November 18, 2011 for their interview, and successful candidates must be available for training in Toronto during the week of December 5-9, 2011. Advisors will be expected to attend 3 days of training that week (December 5-7), and Investigators will attend five days (December 5-9).
