Save our Provincial Parole System

October 13 Rally

OPSEU members and supporters rallied at Queen’s Park on October 13, 2005, to protest the McGuinty government’s plan to offload Ontario’s provincial parole system to the federal government.

Ontario’s Parole and Early Release Board has one of the toughest release records in Canada, while staff at 125 Probation and Parole Offices across the province provide direct supervision to all parolees in the community. The provincial government’s plan to offloading responsibility for parole to a much weaker federal system poses a real threat to the safety of Ontario communities.
