In the most recent round of hospital central bargaining, the parties agreed that OPSEU would maintain a website of hospital vacancies in OPSEU bargaining units.

OPSEU bargaining unit members, who participate in central bargaining and who are on layoff or are in receipt of notice of layoff, may apply to these openings. If selected, these members will be entitled to transfer accumulated service for the purpose of placement on the wage grid and for vacation entitlement. SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST- FULL TIME

The Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for providing a varied range of services to adult and pediatric inpatients and adult clients on an outpatient basis.

Responsibilities:

Administering tests and examinations and observing patients to evaluate speech language, cognitive-linguistic and swallowing disorders.

Planning and implementing remedial programs to correct speech, language and swallowing disorders.

Establishing group and personalized care plans working as a member of an interdisciplinary team.

Functioning as a professional role model demonstrating good interpersonal skills and a commitment to self-growth and development.

Maintaining current knowledge of best practices and benchmarks for the delivery of services, appropriate research, literature, accreditation requirements, policy and legislative requirements and implementing improvements/changes as appropriate.

Complying with organizational policies, procedures and standards.

Qualifications: 

Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology required.

Current registration with the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario in good standing required.

Experience forming strong, collaborative relationships of members in an interdisciplinary team.

Experience in the assessment and treatment of swallowing, neurological and medical patients.

Knowledge of department, organization and professional standards and relevant legislation.

Knowledge of evidence based speech language pathology treatment.

Writing skills including the ability to synthesize information into clear, concise messages both for detailed analytical reports and executive summaries

Knowledge and compliance with SAH Standards of Performance.

Ability to support the mission, vision, goals and objectives of SAH as stated in the standards of performance.

Proficiency in English and French preferred.

Please Note:

The successful candidate will be eligible to apply for the Rehabilitation Professionals Incentive Grant Program through the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. The incentive grant program offers taxable incentive grants of up to $5,000 per eligible year, to a maximum of $15,000.

 

Speech language pathologists have recently certified with OPSEU but the salary scales will remain on the non union salary grid until April 2013.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST- FULL TIME

  Reporting to the Manager of Rehabilitation and Respiratory, the successful candidate will provide assessment, program planning, treatment, follow-up and program evaluation to both inpatients and outpatients following standards set by the College of Occupational Therapist of Ontario
Responsibilities:

Provides assessment, program planning, treatment, follow-up and program evaluation to clients in the hospital and community, in accordance with the standards of Occupational Therapy practice, set by the College of Occupational Therapist of Ontario (COTO).

Provides education and consultation to client and family, caregivers and other health care professionals in the hospital and community to promote optimal level of occupational performance.

Provides effective written and verbal communication according to hospital and departmental guidelines and COTO standards. Collateral contacts include family members, hospital and community resources, insurance companies, Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, lawyers, physicians, other health care professionals, social and funding agencies, Municipal, Provincial and Federal agencies.

Provides supervision and education to occupational therapy students, Co-operative Education students, summer students and students from Rehabilitation Assistants Program (Community Colleges) according to CAOT accreditation standards.

Qualifications: 

Current registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO).  

Graduate of an accredited university program in occupational therapy that meets academic and clinical requirements for registration with COTO.

In-depth knowledge of techniques for assessing and treating basic cognitive abilities and activities of daily living.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills to assist in providing relevant care to clients as well as observing and evaluating treatment effects

Extensive knowledge of community resources preferred.

Ability to work independently as an interdisciplinary team member and interact with clients.

Knowledge and compliance with SAH Standards of Performance.

Proficiency in English and French preferred.

MEDICAL LABORATORY ASSISTANT- TEMP FULL TIME

Responsibilities:

Collect blood and other specimens from Laboratory In-Patients and Out-Patients.

Prepare specimens for analysis and distribution to either workstations in the Laboratory or for submission to other Laboratories.

Reagent, media and smear preparation (eg. blood films).

Staining of smears and cover slipping of slide preparations.

Planting and streaking of microbiology specimens and controls, including set-up of anaerobic and CO2 jars, for reading by a MLT; sub culturing of stock cultures in Bacteriology.

Urinalysis (excluding microscopic);

Recording quality control results for interpretation and approval by qualified staff as listed above;

Operation of automated instruments after proper functioning has been established by qualified staff as listed above;

Set-up of erythrocyte sedimentation rates, micro hematocrits, serology tests (eg. occult blood, pregnancy test – to be read and interpreted immediately by a Medical Laboratory Technician.

Transcription of results from worksheets to reports.

Qualifications: 

Secondary school diploma.

Certification as a Laboratory Assistant by the Ontario Society of Medical Technologists.

Experience in a health care environment, with related laboratory experience is an asset.

Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication.

Excellent organizational and time-management skills in order to prioritize and meet deadlines.

Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Demonstrated ability to maintain successful working relationships; ability to meet and interact with people in a pleasant, professional, responsible and reassuring manner, both in person and on the telephone; tact, courtesy and alertness in public contacts.
