Members at Sudbury Child and Family Centre hold rally in advance of strike deadline
With a Nov. 21 strike deadline quickly approaching,
children’s mental health workers in Sudbury and area represented by
OPSEU Local 666 held a rally on November 17 to back their demands for
job security, improved hours of work, better recognition rights and
improved wages. Nickel Belt MPP, France Gelinas, attended the rally and
spoke about the urgent need for improved funding for this sector.
Parents and children also attended in support of workers who provide
their mental health services. The Local thanks other sister unions and
the Sudbury Labour Council for their presence and support at the rally.
Members of Local 666 have been in negotiations since May, 2011. On
November 2 talks broke down in conciliation. Members will be in a
strike/ lockout position on November 21. Today the bargaining team is in
mediation with the employer.
