"A Fine Balance: Safe Pensions, Affordable Plans, Fair Rules"

November 21, 2008 The Ontario government has released the final report of the Ontario Expert Commission on Pensions, after two years of consultations with stakeholders in the pension community, including OPSEU. This report was prepared by Professor Harry Arthurs and an expert panel including Murray Gold of Koskie Minsky and Bob Baldwin of the Canadian Labour Congress. OPSEU is reviewing the report, titled "A Fine Balance: Safe Pensions, Affordable Plans, Fair Rules" and will make written submissions to the government in the new year. http://www.pensionreview.on.ca/english/report/summary.html

OPSEU Pension Trust to survey plan members, retirees

July 30,  2008  Members of the OPSEU Pension Trust (OPT) and retirees will be contacted in the next week  for their input on how the surplus in the pension plan should be allocated.  Active members and retirees will be asked to complete an on - line survey. Divested and deferred members of the OPT will receive a survey in the mail to be completed and returned.  The OPSEU Executive Board asks you to take this opportunity to make your voice count.  See attached letter from President Smokey Thomas

October 30, 2007 The Expert Commission commission is reviewing the Benefit Act, which regulates about 7,500 pension plans in Ontario.   Former York University President Harry Arthurs was appointed commissioner.  (More info available at http://www.pensionreview.on.ca/english/ )

The OPSEU Joint Trusteed Benefit Fund was launched on July 1st, 1996.  Employers who have an OPSEU collective agreement will now be able to obtain all their group life and health insurance from the Trust Fund, not only for their OPSEU Bargaining Unit, but for their entire organization. more...
